About the precept

A brief note about the precept, which is a part of the Council Tax that Somerset Council collects on behalf of Nunney Parish Council from all Nunney householders. This tax is Nunney Parish Council’s income which is required to maintain, improve and replace, where necessary, the parish’s assets. It is responsible for the Old Quarry Gardens, the BMX track, the public cemetery (Byfields), The Russell Field open space including the allotments, the outdoor adult gym, zip wire, and children’s play area. The Parish Council must also have adequate public liability insurance and reserves for contingencies.

Good news

You will see from your Council Tax bill that the Parish Council part amounts to about 5% of your overall Council Tax. This present financial year (2025/6) has kept the precept almost the same with a rise of only 0.4% despite additional costs for public bin emptying and grass cutting stemming from the devolution of Somerset Council.

How we have used the precept

• Upgrade to the playground (with external grants and £5k from NPC)

• New tarmac path up to village hall

• Removal of many dead and dying trees (especially due to Ash Dieback)

• New benches (x2) and planters (x2)

• More focus on tidying common areas like the Old Quarry Gardens

• Warm Space event in the Village Hall once a month during the winter

• Coronation tea party donation (with medals for the school)

• Regular grants to Little Saplings, Citizens' Advice Bureau

• Website upgrade

• New newsletter (NunneyVoice)

We continue to budget for further improvements around the village and hope residents will see your Councillors are acting prudently with the finances and doing a good job.
