Play area opening

We celebrated a significant community achievement today as Simon Clegg, our NPC Chair, officially opened the newly refurbished The Russell Field Children’s Play Area, a central park facility highly valued by local residents.

At a well-attended ceremony, Mr Clegg reflected on the history of The Russell Field, highlighting its origins dating back to the 1950s when generous donations of land from local farmers and landowners established the area as a communal space dedicated to sport, leisure and community activities. The Parish Council, responsible for serving a community of about 1,200 residents, focused their efforts on improving the facilities. Although the planning stage proved straightforward, securing the necessary funding posed a greater challenge. However, the project received critical financial backing from key sponsors, notably Mrs Yeoman, the National Lottery Community Fund, and Heidelberg Whatley Quarry. We are grateful for your support and participation in today's event.

The refurbishment of the play area will serve the community for many years to come. The event concluded with heartfelt thanks to the sponsors, followed by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting conducted by Mrs. Yeoman, assisted by a young helper, with a lovely reception that followed in the Village Hall.
